Engage Communication Announces the IPTube-DDI - a combination
T1 IP WAN Router and T1 Drop and Insert Multiplexor with Compression.
APTOS, Calif., March 13, 2001 - Engage Communication, Inc. announces
the IPTube-DDI-T1. The
IPTube-DDI has an Ethernet LAN, a T1 WAN and a Fractional T1 Drop
and Insert interface.
The T1 WAN interface connects to Frame Relay or Point to Point Protocol
services. The IPTubeDDI's T1
Drop and Insert interface provides for the transparent interconnection
of PBXs and Telecom Switches via the T1 WAN connection.
The T1 Frames from the T1 Drop and Insert interface are compressed,
based upon the activity within each DS0, and then encapsulated along
with their framing and signaling bits into IP packets. The IPTube-DDI’s
compression maximizes the T1 WAN bandwidth available for the IP
traffic from the LAN interface. Silent voice circuits do not consume
T1 WAN bandwidth.

increased demand for data bandwidth across a T1 WAN that is being
shared with Voice circuits via a static T1 Drop and Insert Multiplexor.
The DDI also provides enterprises with the ability to share a T1
WAN interconnect with their phone systems and Local Area Networks.

The IPTube-DDI provides CLECs with a way to back haul Voice Circuits
from a customer’s phone systems over their T1 based Internet
connection. The back hauled Voice Circuits are connected to the
CLECs phone switch for access to the Public Switched Telephone Network.
Competitive Local Exchange Carriers are able to provide customers
with a very economical alternative to the local Phone Company since
the Local Loop charges of around $40/line per month for each phone
line are consolidated.
